1) If green gram is not soaked, cook for more whistles. Check in between.
2) If you are cooking green gram without a cooker, more water than specified will be required.

1) Clean, peel and cut elephant yam into big cubes.
2) Cook green gram with salt to taste, water and turmeric powder. I cooked soaked (5 hrs) green gram for 2 whistles in a pressure cooker. When it is almost cooked, add elephant yam and chilli powder. Let it cook for just 1 whistle.
3) Grind coarsely all the ingredients given under "to grind".
4) Add the ground coconut to cooked curry. Let it come to a boil. Remove from fire. Curry should be thick.
5) Add coconut oil and curry leaves. Mix well.
Serve with kanji (rice gruel) or rice.
