Meen thappuvekkal is an old recipe from Kannur, a Northern district of Kerala. Usually sardine is used for this preparation.

5 Cloves | Garlic | |
1 Tbsp. | Pepper corns | |
2 Tbsp. | Tamarind pulp | |

0.25 Tsp. | Turmeric powder | |
1 Tbsp. | Coconut oil | |
Salt to taste |
1) Grind all the ingredients given under "to grind".
2) Apply this on sardines. keep aside for 30 minutes.
3) Take a banana leaf. Pass it over gas flame to make it pliable. Add fish with marinade onto the leaf. Cover it to form a parcel. Tie with a string.
4) Heat an earthen round pot. Place the fish parcel and cook on one side for about 15minutes on a low flame. Turn over & cook for about 12 minutes.
Serve in the banana leaf itself.
