Description

Jeera is cumin and aloo is potato. This is a very simple rustic dish. Since it does not contain any fancy ingredients and also potatos are almost always found in all Indian households, this dish is very popular among housewives.

Note

1) Baby potatoes can also be used.
2) Usually onion is not added to this dish, but i usually add finely chopped onionand brown it, before add ing ginger and green chillies.
3) If you don't like mustard oil, substitute with any other oil.
4) If dry mango powder(amchoor) is not available, add a tiny bit of lime juice.

500  Gm.sPotatoes diced
2  Tsp.Ginger chopped finely
1  Tsp.Greeen chillies,chopped
1  Tbsp.Cumin
0.5  Tsp.Chilli powder
0.25  Tsp.Turmeric powder
2  Tbsp.Mustard oil
  Salt to taste
1  Tsp.Dry mango powder
0.25  Tsp.Asafoetida powder
2  Tbsp.Corriander leaves chopped fine

Method

1) Boil potatoes till just done. Don't let it turn mushy.
2) Heat mustard oil to a smoking pont. Put off fire. Heat again. This is done only for mustard oil.
3) Splutter cumin. Let it brown.
4) Add ginger and green chillies and saute.
5) Now add asafoetida, turmeric and chilli powders.
6) Now add potatoes and mix well.
7) Add dry mango powder and salt and mix well and continue frying till poatoes are dry and lightly crispy.
8) Lastly garnish with corriander leaves.

Serving Suggestions

Serve with chapathy. Since this is a dry dish , ideally should be accompanied by dal(lentil curry).
