Garcinia Cambogia or kodampuli or Malabar tamarind is a fruit tree, of culinary and medicinal use. The fruit is dark in colour, purple to black color, and sticky. The fruit is often halved and sun-dried to a semi-dry stage before being used. It is a preferred ingredient for fish curries in Kerala. The ones found in Konkan region known as Garcinia Indica (kokum) imparts a nice purple color, wheras the Garcinia Cambogia found in Kerala is more blackish.
1) Overcooking prawns will make it though.
2) Usually seafood is cooked in clay pots in Kerala.
3) Addition of garcinia cambogia which is native to Kerala gives a nice pungency to the dish. if not available, add garcinia indica (kokum) till you get that required pungency.
4) If you want more gravy, increase the quantity of coconut milk.

1) Heat coconut oil.
2) Soak garcinia indica in little warm water after washing.
3) Splutter mustard and fenugreek. Add curry leaves.
4) Then add onions and turmeric powder and fry till golden brown. Now add ginger and garlic and fry till done.
5) Now add chilli, corriander, fennel and pepper powder.
6) Add in tomatoes & let it cook on a low flame till done.
7) Add salt & soaked garcinia indica with soaking water.
8) Let it cook slightly.
9) Add prawns and coconut milk & cook for about 7 to 8 minutes.
10) Remove from fire.
Serve with rice, hoppers or chapathy.
