Description

This relish is good for digestion. It is advisable for people suffering from fever & diarrohea. Garcinia Cambogia or kodampuli or Malabar tamarind is a fruit tree, of culinary and medicinal use. The fruit is dark in colour, purple to black color, and sticky. The fruit is often halved and sun-dried to a semi-dry stage before being used. It is a preferred ingredient for fish curries in Kerala. The ones found in Konkan region known as Garcinia Indica (kokum) imparts a nice purple color, wheras the Garcinia Cambogia found in Kerala is more blackish.

Ayurvedic Note

1) Good for people who suffer from fever.
2) Helps to improve digestive fire.
3) During fever, digestion & absorption is minimal. This relish with Kudampuli will improve digestion & absorption.
4) Coconut usually increases Kapha, but in this case, the hot potency of other ingredients will reduce the effect of coconut.

Note

1) I have used here, Garcinia Cambogia (kudampuli) available in Kerala. Increase or decrease the qty of garcinia according to its size.
2) I found it easier to roast the ingredients on open flame by putting them in a steel tea strainer. you can also skewer them and roast on open flame.

Method

1) Roast coconut pieces, red chillies and garcinia indica/kokum on an open flame till lightly charred.
2) Dry roast (without oil) shallots and curry leaves till lightly wilted.
3) Grind all the ingredients together with salt. Add water just enough to grind.

Serving Suggestions

Serve with rice gruel/ porridge.
