Description

Makhana (hindi word) are the dried puffed up lotus seeds.Makhana is white in color with brown spots. In English it is known as Fox nuts. Bihar is the heaven for Makhana production in India. Around 63% of the total Makhana production comes from Bihar . Makhana is superior to dry fruits such as almonds, walnut, coconut and cashewnut in term of sugar, protein etc. Makhana is a good source of calcium. When roasted, it is as good or better than popcorn and at the same time is a low fat snack.
Chaat masala is a blend of dried mango powder, cumin, coriander, dried ginger,black salt pepper, and asafoetida. Used widely in Northern and Western India.

Note

1) Makhana is availble in some supermarkets like reliance.Available in 100 gm. packs.
2) Chaat masala is available in supermarkets or can be made at home.

1  Tsp.Chilli powder
2  Tsp.Chaat masala
0.5  Tsp.Turmeric powder

Method

1) Heat one tbsp. oil in a pan and add makhana to it . Fry till the makhana becomes crisp.
2) In another pan heat the remaining oil, add turmeric, chilli and chaat masala. Immediately add the roasted makhana to the spices and mix well. Remove from fire.
3) Allow to cool before storing in airtight containers.
