Description

Patra ni machhi is a traditional Parsi dish which is served during Parsi weddings.Patra ni machhi translates as "fish wrapped in a leaf", "patra" is leaf in Hindi and "machhi" is fish. It’s fish covered in green chutney, wrapped in banana leaves and steamed. This dish is healthy as it does not use any oil.

Note

1) Pomfret or any white fish which is fleshy can be used.
2) If banana leaves are not available, substitute with aluminium foil. Banana leaves would impart a nice flavor to the dish which cannot be acheived with foil.
3) Green chillies can be increased or decreased according to the level of spiciness you desire.
4) Adding butter on fish is done for flavor and moistness.
5) Use only freshly grated coconut. Dont use coconut powder or dessicated coconut. The flavor will change completely.
6) if using cooker for steaming, don't use weight.
7) Vinegar is added to water to reduce the fishy smell while steaming.
