Dal dhokli is a sunday morning dish in most traditional gujarati households.
1) Remember to simmer the dhokli in dal just before serving, or else it will turn soggy.
2) If dal thickens too much while simmering, add little water.

For the dhoklis:-
1) Combine all the ingredients together & knead into a firm dough using water.
2) Divide the dough into 4 equal portions & roll each portion into thin chapathis.
3) Cook chapatis till done. Cool & cut each chapathi into small squares or diamonds. Keep aside.
For the dal:-
1) Clean, wash & drain dal. Add 3/4 cup of water to dal & pressure cook for 3 whistles. 2) When steam subsides, blend till smooth using a hand blender or mixie.
3) Heat ghee & oil in a pan. Crackle mustard seeds. Now add cumin,fenugreek, curry leaves, clove, cinnamon,, bayleaf, red chillies & asafoetida. Saute till just done.
4) Add dal to this with 1.5cups of water, kokum, jaggery, lemon juice, turmeric powder, chilli powder, green chillies, ginger, peanuts & salt. Mix well. Bring to a boil. Simmer for 7 minutes, simmering once or twice in between.
To assemble:-
Boil dal just before serving, add dhokli pieces one by one & mix gently. Simmer again for 5 minutes, stirring very gently occassionaly. Serve hot garnished with corriander leaves.
This is a sumptuous one-dish meal, but you could also serve it with rice as an accompaniment.
