Description

Simple (or sugar) syrup is as the name implies, very simple to make and is an essential item to stock in any bar. You will find it in many mixed drinks including Mojitos, Daiquiris and Hurriacnes. This sweetener is primarily used as a substitute for raw sugar and adds volume.
It can be stored in the refrigerator in a well sealed bottle for about 6 months.

Note

1) To prolong the shelf life of your simple syrup, add one to two tablespoons of vodka, depending on how large the batch of syrup is.

Quantity Name
1  CupSugar
1  CupWater

Method

1) Bring water to a boil.
2) Add sugar into boiling water, stirring constantly. Once the sugar is dissolved completely, remove the pan from the heat. (Note: Do not allow the syrup to boil for too long or the syrup will be too thick.)
3) Allow to cool completely and thicken, then bottle.

VARIATION:-
Demerara Syrup:
Replacing white sugar with Demerara sugar (a raw sugar) is a popular alternative because it has a richer sugar flavor. The drawback in using this light brown sugar is that it will alter the color of cocktails. Another option is to use turbinado or brown sugar.

Bar Simple syrup:
The easiest way to make simple syrup is without a stove and can be made in minutes. Just combine equal parts (1:1) sugar and water in a bottle and shake it until the sugar is completely dissolved. The result is a syrup that is thinner than rich simple syrup.

Flavour-infused simple syrups:
Simple syrup can also be infused with flavors like for eg. mint, vanilla etc., and used in a variety of cocktails to add a unique twist.

Serving Suggestions

Serve as specified in cocktails and mocktails. Can also be used in making iced teas.
