Description

Garlic bread consists of bread topped with mashed garlic and olive oil or butter. It is then either grilled or toasted, or baked in an oven. It is typically made using a baguette (French loaf) which is partially sliced , allowing the herbs and oil/ butter to soak into the loaf while keeping it in one piece. The bread is stuffed through the cuts with oil and minced garlic before baking. Alternatively, butter and garlic powder are used. Then it is wrapped in aluminium foil and baked.
For garlic toasts, the bread slices are cut into seperate slices and butter mix is appliied and baked.

Note

1) Substitute Rosemary with any other herb like mint, thyme or celery.
2) If using a French loaf cut slits on loaf and add butter garlic mix. Cover with an aluminium foil. Bake for 15 minutes at 180 C. Serve warm.
3) If using fresh herbs chop finely and add to butter. Fresh Rosemary tastes very good.

Method

1) Toast bread lightly (this can be done either in an oven or on a tawa).
2) Crush garlic till mushy. Add this to soft butter. Add rosemary, mix well.
3) Spread on bread slices.
4) Bake in a preheated oven at 180 C for 12 minutes.

Serving Suggestions

Serve with soup.
