Despite the name, sichuan / schezuan pepper corns it is not related to black pepper. This pepper has a tongue numbing effect. It is available in stores selling baking ingredients or speciality stores.
1) If you cant find sichuan / schezuan pepper corns mentioned in five spice powder, omit that and use all the other spices. But it may not give the same taste.
2) In the original recipe, chinese rice wine is used. If not available, use gin or apple juice.

It is a combination of star anise, fennel, clove and Sichuan peppercorns. Sichuan peppercorns are available in speciality supermarkets and also in shops selling baking ingredients and equipments.

1) Mix flour with 2 tsp. vegetable oil and little water to make a paste. Add squid and coat well with the paste.
2) Toss the squid in cornflour till squid is dry.
3) Heat oil and deep fry squid. Remove to paper towels.
4) Heat 1 tbsp. of oil. Fry onion and garlic till onion is brown. Lastly add red chillies and fried squid five spice powder and rice wine and toss well to mix. Remove from fire.
Serve hot with a splash of lime juice.
